Help Us Press STRAYLIGHT (Original Game Soundtrack) On Vinyl

I’m so excited to announce this vinyl campaign for my original soundtrack for STRAYLIGHT - a groundbreaking VR platforming experience! The release will feature the soundtrack on "deep purple" vinyl, in a side-loading jacket depicting artwork from the game. The poster design will be exclusive to the campaign!

STRAYLIGHT began as a Global Game Jam project five years ago when two game developers and three filmmakers came together to make a new VR game. Knowing only the concept and seeing only one simple graphic, I was tasked with scoring the music to reflect a player’s first-time experience of floating and flying in VR space!

For any newcomers, hi! I’m Rob Kovacs, a composer, pianist, recording artist, music streamer and college professor. I’ve been releasing videos and music on YouTube under both my name and a moniker. I also create note-for-note piano arrangements of classic video game soundtracks under the name 88bit, which makes it extra special to be putting out my very first original video game soundtrack.


The STRAYLIGHT soundtrack consists of 10 progressive synthwave tracks all of which utilize an original Prophet 5. Musically, they feature long-developing melodies that require multiple listens. Harmonically, I make heavy use of mode mixture and progressions that never quite feel settled - a feeling that is mirrored by gameplay where there is no ground. I hope I’ve created something very unique that people will want to keep coming back to.

Much of my success in the last couple years has come from this incredibly supportive and kind online community.
